Can I make my own protein pills?
Protein pills sound so good in theory that a lot of people want to try and make their own.

If I work out just how much protein should I be getting in each day?
You’ll see all sorts of recommendations being made about the ideal protein intake for fitness buffs.
However, it all depends on your individual fitness levels, your age, your weight, your health and your lifestyle.
The National Institutes of Health for example, recommends just 0.36 x bodyweight in grams of protein a day if you have a sedentary lifestyle.
The American College of Sports Medicine on the other hand recommends that you consume 0.5 to 0.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight if you are looking to increase muscle growth or maintain it.
Elite athletes and professional bodybuilders can consume up to 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. But that’s not really optimum for the average fitness buff and gym bro.
Stick to the 0.8 gram per pound number and you should get enough protein to meet your fitness goals.
Does the timing of protein intake matter?
Again, there’s no clear verdict on this.
Some people believe that the anabolic window (45-60 minutes immediately after your workout when your body is primed to receive the nutrients) is a load of bull.
Science though believes that it is better if you divide your daily protein intake amongst all your meals.
So, 35% at breakfast, 35% at lunch and 30% at dinner would be a better idea than 10% at breakfast, 30% at lunch and 60% at dinner, which is how most Americans consume their protein currently.
I recommend that you stick to whatever works best for you. That’s what I’ve followed and its worked for me.
